Welcome! This page provides essential instructions to prepare you for your procedure involving Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas Anesthesia.
WHY THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE IMPORTANT
Your compliance with these instructions is crucial for ensuring your safety during nitrous oxide or laughing gas anesthesia administration. By following the guidelines provided, you help us create a safe and smooth surgical experience.
BEFORE Nitrous oxide or laughing gas ANESTHESIA SEDATION
Please follow these instructions to prepare for oral surgery with Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas Anesthesia.
- Fasting: Do not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for 4 hours prior to the procedure.
- If you have a medical condition requiring you to take prescribed medication(s), please take it as scheduled with a sip of water, unless otherwise notified by your oral surgeon.
- Eating less than 4 hours before may increase the risk of nausea and vomiting during the procedure.
- Effects of Nitrous Oxide: The effects of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) usually wear off within minutes after turning off the gas. You can drive home after your procedure, however, having another person drive you home is always recommended.
- Minors: A parent or a legal guardian must accompany minors.
- Ice Packs: Make ice packs prior to surgery. (Suggestion: freeze wet and folded washcloths)
- Diet: The day prior to surgery prepare soft foods (i.e. Jell-O, applesauce) as well as plenty of clear fluids to drink (i.e. Gatorade and apple juice).
- No Smoking: No smoking/vaping/marijuana for 5 days after surgery and 24 hours prior to surgery (to prevent dry sockets).
- No Alcohol: Avoid alcohol 24 hour prior to anesthesia/surgery.
- Schedule Confirmation: Due to our high surgery volume, your surgery time may change. Please contact our office 24 hours before surgery to verify the final arrival time.
- Be prepared to wait. Although we do our best to stay on time, delays are not uncommon.
- We reserve the right to reschedule your surgery based on lack of medical information, recent vaccinations, cold/flu like symptoms or sinus infections.
- Cancellation Policy: Please give the office 48 hours advanced notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment to avoid a $100 fee.
